Strong Quakes Hit Antigua, Barbuda and Alaska

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of the Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda Saturday, US experts said, but there was no tsunami warning or immediate reports of damage or injury.

The strong quake, which struck at 7:26 am (1126 GMT), was at a depth of 24km with its epicentre located 153km northeast of the capital of Saint John’s, according to the US Geological Survey. A strong and shallow 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit off Alaska, US experts said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake occurred at 5:35 pm Anchorage time (0135 GMT Saturday) and was located at a depth of 6.2 miles some 45 miles south of Atka, Alaska, according to the US Geological Survey.
